About Interlaken

Interlaken is the tourist capital of the Bernese Oberland region. Cable and cogged railways connect the city with mountain villages and impressive attractions, including the famous snow-capped Mount Jungfrau.

Tourism in Interlaken began in 1690 when Frederick Albert of Brandenburg set out on a journey through the snowy cliffs of Jungfrau. After the construction of railways, a lot of tourists started to come in Interlaken. Among them were such famous people as Mark Twain, Goethe, Wagner, Mendelssohn and members of European royal family.
