Começaremos nossa visita no El Escorial, símbolo do poder espanhol no século XVI que homenageia a batalha de Saint-Quentin. É também o mausoléu de Carlos V. Devido à simetria e ao equilíbrio de sua construção, segundo o estilo humanista renascentista, durante anos foi considerado a oitava maravilha do mundo. A visita inclui o Palácio dos Habsburgos, o Mausoléu dos Reis e dos Príncipes, a Sala do Capítulo e a Basílica.

Localizado a 9 km do El Escorial, este enorme monumento foi construído entre 1940 e 1959 para homenagear os mortos durante a Guerra Civil Espanhola. A basílica (*) foi esculpida na montanha a 1350 metros de altitude, onde uma impressionante cruz de 150 metros de altura se eleva sobre a magnífica paisagem das montanhas de Madri.

The guide was brilliant and very well informed and the trip was well worth the effort ...not too rushed and a chance to do something different and learn more about the Spanish Civil War

Excellent guide, although a bit on the strict side. She meant business and she was very knowledgeable! Do not book on a Sunday or you won't be able to enter the Escorial church. Valley of the Fallen was chilling to say the least. Definitely worth it!

We saw most of what was open for visitors at the Escorial (the chapel was closed as it was Sunday). However, the frescoes at the top of the stairs at the beginning of the tour were skipped because another group was there, but we never went back after they moved on. Also, one of the most important features, the library, was skipped. The Valley of the Fallen tour was good, even though there were hoards of visitors there wanted to see Franco's grave for the last time.

This was an excellent tour. Our bi-lingual guide Manuel was great entertaining, interactive and informative all the while switching between Spanish and English. The Monastery with its Mausoleum was fascinating, the tour was a decent length and unhurried. When we got to the Valley of the Fallen we were only there for about an hour, which may seem short but we felt it was enough time. It's well worth a visit.

Our guide for El Escorial Monastery was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He gave us a wealth of information about the monastery, its contents, and Spanish history. The Valley of the Fallen was a sobering experience and represented an entirely different historical period.. All-in-all, the day left us with a better understanding of Spain and its past.

Very nice tour of the monastery followed by Valley of the Fallen. It is easy to get to the tour office by bus/taxi. They run everything professionally and on time. The tour guide was well-informed. There is a little walking to get to both places from the bus parking lot. So if you are going in winter like we did, be careful of the snow and ice on the footpaths. Other than that, you should have a great time.
