We enjoyed Spain and our Spanish guides. The hotel and buffet in Costel del Sol were disappointing. Supposedly, the tour buys the cheapest rooms so plan on an outlook over the garbage and no air conditioning in May. The lines were so long at the buffet that we never got an entree. Plus the tour is dual language but you may find that you are the only English speakers. Morroco was very interesting but our main guide was not very interested in guiding. You'll see all the designated sites but no extra information about the country or culture.
Good tour. The guides with Julia during the travels in Spain Ishmael and Ellie were the some of the best guides I've had anywhere in the world. Hotels were nice as well. There's a lot to try to pack in 12 days but I wish we'd stay longer in Granada and maybe a little less time in Morocco. Also maybe spend time in Malaga instead of some touristy resort town like Torremolinos because there is zero culture or anything interesting there. These tour groups have a lot of older people on them so get ready to move slowly and be held up for a bit.
Overall the trip was worthwhile and a pleasurable trip. The trip was taken in October, 2016. I waited to digest it completely before writing the review in an effort to be as impartial as possible. Loved both legs of the tour specially Morocco. We were lucky as most of the time on this tour the weather was gorgeous and cooperative. I love history and had been looking for a trip covering, southern Spain, Strait of Gibraltar and Morocco. As I said in the beginning, the overall trip was worthwhile, however, there were couple of Big personal disappointments as well. Otherwise, I would have given Five Stars. Once on the bus, I realized most of the tourist were from countries who spoke Spanish or Portuguese. Thus, they were or became primary focus group for the tour guide. The detailed tour of Alhambra I had been waiting for the longest time and looking forward the most during Spanish lag of the tour, unfortunately, it was not covered the way it was supposed to as many historical and important sites were missed. A huge personal disappointment. By the way, it was just not us but it was felt by many other tourists who shared it with us. I conveyed my disappointment via customer survey provided on board by Julia Travels who was responsible for the Spanish lag of our tour. The things enjoyed the most. The weather for the most part on both legs of the tour was very good Since it was a compact tour, covering many parts of two different countries and cultures, one could only get so much in little time. yet, it gave us good glimpse to many historical and other famous places between the two countries, Spain and Morocco. Few Recommendations 1- Viator should try to arrange separate tours for English speaking tourists so they can get the most out of these tours as in most cases these are, once in a life time opportunities. If due to certain constraints it is not possible, where possible, arrange a local English speaking tour guide with a clear accent and good command on English. With a diversified group of people coming from many different countries, cultures and beliefs, a tour guide can not and should not narrate his/her or certain version of the history. If historical facts are not clear or controversial, the tour guide should just provide references according to multiple known historians with different point of views and leave the digging up to the tourist. 2- Again, I recommend for future tours, Viator make sure at least all the well known historical places and monuments are covered in such a way where tourists feel fulfilled the most. I realize, on these compact tours time becomes very valuable. I think at certain historical sites, the touring party can be divided into smaller units based upon their interests and be sent with local guides to cover the sites they are interested the most. 3- Arrange porters at the port of Tangier for luggage transfer. Tips for the Tourists Do a bit of research before taking a particular trip. Be mentally and physically prepared for the days you will spent on the tour.
This tour was well organised and the places included were all of great interest. We had not been to Spain or Morocco before and were delighted in every place we went to. Highlights were the mosque/church in Córdoba, the medina in Fes and Alhambra in Grenada. Grace, our guide in Spain was very good for morale and very experienced in handling a large group of diverse people. Our guide in Morocco was helpful at all times. Morocco was much more developed than we expected, but we were taken to lots of 'old Morocco'. The accommodation was all very good. There are always 'little things' that could go better, but part of travel is coping with those. It would be good if the tour left from a central hotel rather than the bus parking area which is difficult to find, but I think it is a Madrid regulation that makes this impossible. We recommend this tour. If it's you ur first in Spain and Morocco it is a very pleasant introduction.
This was a great trip and was very well handled by the actual service provider. We had upgraded our trip to Superior and they put us in some excellent hotels at each location. Grace and Margarita were both very good guides and were very helpful too. Local guides at different locations were very good as well. The coach provided all through was very comfortable indeed.
This tour, especially the Moroccan part, was a trip of a lifetime. Our guides were superb and our local guides in each city made the cities come alive.
