An enlightened couple of hours in Bangkok with a Buddhist monk: it may seem to be something that is out of the ordinary for anyone interested in learning the ways of Buddhism. The life philosophy of the Lord Buddha and its disciples that carry his message into the current generation still are practiced by more than 95% of the Thailand population, making it the largest Buddhist nation worldwide. Being a novice or a monk for a period of time still stands in extremely high regard for the family and relatives of the ordained member of the family and this will be the chance to share his insights and practices during an afternoon at a well-respected temple.

This experience is truly enlightening and offers a profound insight into the spirituality of Thailand through interaction with some Buddhist monks and visits to some of Bangkok’s most important temples. We will pick you up from your hotel and drive through the capital, passing various places of interest which will be pointed out by your accompanying guide. The sharp contrasts of the loud noises and constant movement of cars, people and motorcycles versus the coming hours you will witness cannot get any farther apart. The temple we will head to is officially called Wat Mahathat Yuwaratrangsarit Rajaworamahavihara but better known as simply Wat Mahathat (The Temple of the Great Relic). This is an important temple for Buddhist studies and houses a well-known meditation centre and the first Buddhist University in the country.

After exploring the temple with your guide, you will visit the ’monk-chat’ area. This is an initiative set up by the temple so that monks can interact with foreign visitors in order to give them an insight into Buddhism. The session is an open forum and a fascinating way to find out about the Buddhist religion in Thailand and its associated culture. Part of the session will be getting a short introduction to meditation and the benefits this will bring for mental development and a sense of peace.

After gaining a deeper understanding and meaning of Buddhism, you may take a break to let everything sink in before being driven back to your Bangkok downtown hotel.

Transfers are only operated within the downtown Bangkok areas and restricted to main hotels only. Regions outside the central business district such as Khao San Road, Rattanakosin, Nonthaburi, Thonburi, Minburi, both International Airports, Ratchadapisek and upper Sukhumvit (Soi 55 and further) are excluded and supplementary charges apply.
It is of the greatest importance to follow the guide’s instructions during this event in paying respect to the local customs.
This includes approaching the monks, taking photographs and obeying the unwritten rules and regulations of this deeply-spiritual encounter.
This also includes adhering to the strict dress code for this experience. Under no circumstances are customers allowed to wear short trousers (long trousers need to reach the ankles), mini-skirts / knee-length skirts, culottes, tights, fisherman’s trousers, sleeveless shirts/ singlets or any clothing that shows the shoulders, see-through clothing, shirts with obscene and disrespectful prints and pictures and brightly-colored clothing. Refusal of operating this excursion if these clothing regulations may be enforced when not respecting this dress code.
We always will make efforts to confirm the exact pick-up time upon reservation. For any operational issues in which are not able to confirm the exact pick-up time in advance, we reserve the right to inform you the day before the departure of the tour.
It is the responsibility of the customer to provide us with the correct hotel information, should pick-up and drop-off services be included in the package. Any changes in accommodation outside 48 hours will be handled accordingly: changes within 48 hours may be on request.
